Michael Foley is a self-taught bay area freelance artist who creates deceptively layered pieces of work. Hidden underneath the saturated colors and cartoon-like imagery you find mature works looking deeply into the human condition. These works often have a sardonic tinge to them, questioning various aspects of our society and challenging these norms while attempting to create work that appears light-hearted on first viewing.
Since 2013, Michael’s work went through changes in regards to subject matter and technique. Peeling away the humor and showing a style he’s hid away in his sketchbooks, becoming much more introspective. These works tend to deal with issues of insecurity, loss, betrayal, rejection and hope. 2015 shows this style growing ever more tackling new mediums such as video and forms of storytelling. Currently Michael is working on his latest book which will be ready in time for the 2015 Alternative Press Expo.
Outside of painting and illustration for galleries/clients Michael is working on a series of comics, some which can be seen on his other website: Life’s a Pisser
He has shown in various galleries and private exhibits in the United States and internationally and continues to do so.
Michael is a freelance artist for hire, a teacher who has taught various workshops, private tutoring and academic teaching. Michael is available for commissioned private tutoring, workshops, live painting events, set painting, mural work and various public art projects.
